New Faces in Old Places
Hello to all the pretty faces out there!
My beautiful girlfriend has been running this blog for some time now and has entrusted me with some posting responsbilities. Now if that isn't trust, I don't know what is. Considering that this is my first post, I will introduce myself to the masses. I am Cory Sivo, born and raised in Rhode Island, joined the Air Force and have served 6 years thus far. My girlfriend has recently involved me into knitting and crochet, but I'm not a foreigner to crafty projects. I like to make paracord bracelets, fold origami, paint (Wine and Palette's are awesome, B T dubs!). Other things I make on my free time are Pepakura masks. (Shoutout to Steve Wintercroft and his amazing designs) and build with Legos. I have a few of Jack Streat's models from his book Heavy Weapons. Very soon, I plan on melting metal to form little aluminium ingots to make metal masks for the future.
Now for the real reason I'm here today with you guys. Within the past month, I created a beard out of Red Heart Boutique Swerve yarn (which in itself is a pain to work with, but the result was simply amazing) and I plan to share the secret on how to make your own. It's fairly easy to do considering I'm a beginner to the craft. So, without further ado, see below for instructions:
Materials Required:
2x skeins of Red Heart Boutique Swerve yarn (You will not use all of both skeins)
Size 15 Needles (10 mm for my UK folk)
Tapestry Needle for the loose ends
Patience....LOTS of patience!
To start, first Cast-on 15 stitches.
Next, Rows 1-4 will all be Knit
On Row 5 -. K5, Bind off 5, K5 which should complete the row.
Row 6 will require the second skein of the yarn. You will K5, Cast-on 5 (this is for the mouth/moustache) and K5 until the end of the row.
Row 7 (Final row) - Knit to end!
Loosely bind off stitches.
Creating your ear pieces:
Using your loose ends, create the loops large enough to fit comfortably over your ears. Stitch within the designated area. (Different for everyone) Weave in any extra into the beard.
The only thing that I did different from what you will have is that I wrapped the yarn itself around the moustache to keep the fuzz from tickling my nose. This was my own personal preference as it is not required to do so, however you may wish to do likewise.
So I hope to see some great project from all of you, and glad to be on the Treasure Trove Team.
Happy Crafting! - as told by the girlfriend :P
