A Project That Takes The Cake!

Image
"Let them eat cake!" These immortal words are accredited to Marie Antoinette, I have been known to use this quotation a little more often than any one human should in her lifetime. Birthdays with me are never dull, especially MY birthday. It's possible that I act like the doomed queen, but that's neither here nor there. Le Cake!   Anyway when I found a pattern for a kleenex box cover that looked like a delicious piece of cake... well I couldn't resist the urge to make one. I DID resist the urge, however strong, to powder my face with massive amounts of cornstarch and break out my horse-hair wig from the theatrical closet! Just kidding, I don't have a horse-hair wig. If I did, let's face it, it would be utilized almost daily. True confession, don't judge. I would look rather dignified in one of those, no matter how itchy! Here's the pattern details. It's free! Yay! You can find the pattern by visiting the Tissue Box Bakery's website ...

Catching Up, Let's Do This!

Hello to all my lovely readers out there in the vastness of the internet! It has been nearly a month since my last post. But life has got a little bit hectic, as it often does to the best of us. Things like baby blankets and throws for those chilly fall days, and these are just perfect for making bigger projects like that. These little flowers work up pretty fast and are so basic! There's a plethora of projects that use these little beauties too! So if you're not into making th...

The Mansfield Park Shawl

Hello Loverlies! It's time to show you my second completed project for the 2014-2015 YOP! I've affectionately dubbed this the "Mansfield Park Shawl" because of the lush variants of green and blue, not to mention my undying addiction to all things Jane Austen inspired!  I started out with a very basic garter stitch pattern, after casting off there was no denying the simple beauty of this project. But something was missing... so I added some simple stranded color work. The end result is simply stunning! So as promised, here's how you can make your own! Things needed: Size 7 circular needles (3 pair)--- You'll be picking up a lot of stitches for your border! Maintain the calm, don't freak out just yet! 4 skeins of  worsted weight yarn (1 in your contrast color and 3 in your main color) I used Red Heart Supersaver colors in Real Teal and Glow Worm. Tape measure Tapestry needle, crochet hook, or some other way to weave in your ends. Steam Iron ...
