Tequila Sunrise Beanie
What you'll need:
-2 Skiens of extra chunky yarn (I used Lion Brand USA Hometown blend in the color Pheonix Azalea). Technically you'll use about 1.5 of this... so you'll have plenty for your stash or next project!
- Size 15 straight knitting needles! Yep we dust out the bigggin's for this project!!!
- Tapestry Needle, or Crochet hook for weaving ends in
- A cable needle
Let's get started!
Cast on 64 stitches!
R1: K4, P4 (rep to end of row)
R2-4: Repeat row 1
Seriously how easy is that... Now comes the fun cabley part!
R5: C4 (in other words for all you who are new to cables, me included, slip 2 stitches onto the cable needle... now you knit the other two stitches, then slip the stitches from the cable needle back to your main needle and knit each of those.) P4, C4, P4... Repeat to end of row!
You're going to use this easy as pie 5 row pattern until you reach your desired length. Mine (and I would assume most adult sizes like this) was 14 rows... so I repeated the sequence 3 times. It's really easy to tell where you are on this project because of the cable twists, you'll have three of them by this point.
Decreasing rows:
R15: *slip one stitch to the cable needle, K the next 2 stitches together, slip cable needle stitch back to main needle and knit... Knit the next stitch too! Now purl 2 tog... twice* rep until end of row!
R16-18: Work every stitch as needed.
R19: *c1, k2tog, p2tog* rep to end of row!
R20-22: Work every stitch as needed!
R23: *k2tog, p1* rep to end of row!
Break your yarn... BE SURE TO LEAVE A LONG TAIL for weaving and seaming! Pull your tail through the remaining stiches on the needle! Be sure to pull it really tight! Now you're ready to seam your hat together. You can use a tapestry needle for this, but I find it easier (on bulky yarn) to use a crochet hook.
When you're done you should have a fantastically fluffy, cozy and fun hat!!! Wear it with pride, or gift it to your bestie!!!
Happy Crafting!
