Shawls & Kisses!

Hello Loverlies!

You've gotta give me credit, this is my third blog post in the last few days... I'm trying to keep on top of the craftiness for once, but we know what happens when I start making promises of posting more frequently. So I'm not even gonna go there. Seriously guys I have emails that I haven't replied to since before going on vacation to Philly in May! I'm really quite terrible at communicating, just ask my pen pals. Anyway I'm not sure how long this posting frenzy will continue but let's just enjoy it while we can!

I finished a few projects since my last post. The first is a shawl for my boyfriend's mother, whom I'll be meeting for the first time in March. Yep! I believe in being prepared ahead of time. My grandmother always said to never show up to a party, or someone's house empty handed. I'm using those words of wisdom and bringing a gift of a handmade shawl. Keep your fingers crossed that she likes it and more importantly that she likes me!

I really love the design and had it not been for the fact that this project had turned into a prayer shawl of "Please like me.... I love your son.... Don't make him break up with me.... pleeeeeeeaaaaaaase" almost immediately, I would have been very tempted to keep it for myself and buy her a nice box of chocolate instead! But I'm fairly certain that it would be bad luck to back out on giving it to her now. While I'm not superstitious I'm still not taking any chances! Let me gush for a second... I love this man and meeting his mother has me terrified. I'm excited but geee whiz! TERRIFIED!

Okay, enough of the backstory. Let's get to the logistics... Pattern review time! I used the Comforting Shawl Pattern from Red Heart. I found mine on the back of a skien of white super saver jumbo, but you can just follow the link! Okay, this is a pretty simple concept, a two row repeat with minimal shaping required. The pattern walks you through your basic shell and V- stitches required for the garment.
I still need to weave in the ends and soften the yarn to perfection, after that I'll share pictures of the finished result.

The next little project I finished was really quite simple! It's a Hershey's Kiss! I used Petals to Picots pattern and you can find it HERE! Like I said before, it was super easy and fast to work. If you're looking for a quick gift for a friend then this is definitely a worthy candidate. It's equally cute as a stress ball or just sitting on a shelf next to your favorite cookbook choc-full of a chocolate lovers kryptonite! All it needs is a little embroidery on the tag, which actually is a slight change from the original pattern. The original calls for a small amount of ribbon or paper tag. I wanted a completely crochet look and improvised.
Ch 10, sc in 2nd from hook, sc across to last stitch, slip stitch in that space. Complete look by either embroidering "KISS" on the tag (or using a puffy paint marker, for those of us who aren't gifted by the embroidery fairies.)

Well it's getting late and I've a Skype date with the Man to watch Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade... So cue the heroic music, I must be off!

Happy Crafting,
~Dorothy Sue
